"Nor I, my lord," said the armorer. "I confess, these colors were not what I intended, and I do not know that I could duplicate them. Your lord father had asked for the crimson of your House, and it was that color I set out to infuse into the metal. But Valyrian steel is stubborn. These old swords remember, it is said, and they do not change easily. I worked half a hundred spells and brightened the red time and time again, but always the color would darken, as if the blade was drinking the sun from it. And some folds would not take the red at all, as you can see. If my lords of Lannister are displeased, I will of course try again, as many times as you should require, but - "

The beauty of Oathkeeper
Received Oathkeeper damascus #466
(asoiaf) recently and I can't stop looking at it! The quality and workmanship of each collector's piece just keeps getting better and better. An awesome sword! More beautiful than it's pictures-a true work of art!

Oathkeeper #202
Overall the sword looks very nice. Brienne is my favorite character in the books, so I had to have this sword. It is very red with not as much black as in the pictures. Almost more like what the armorer set out to make the sword look like. The crimson does in fact flash prettily in the sun.
A few problems though. When handling the sword or swinging it you can feel a movement or gap in the middle of the handle. It is only slight and cannot be seen only felt. Also the cross guard has several spots or blemishes on it.
The main problem though is the blade. First there is a chip or two at the tip where the patina looks to have come off. The fullers do not run at the same length on one of the sides. Also there are a lot of little imperfections all along the blade that appear to be smudges or perhaps dust or debris that got stuck to the blade when the patina was applied
(could be the scratches people are talking about?). It looks beautiful on my wall, and I was not expecting perfection, but at the price I paid I am somewhat disappointed with these flaws.
In the end I still love the sword, none of these flaws are seen when it is on my wall it just looks bad ass.
I am from Canada and the customs fee was $100 plus the exchange rate so if you are buying from Canada keep that in mind.

Stunning!
It's simply amazing! The other reviewers are right, the pictures really don't do it justice. The red is so intense and a lot darker, extremely beautiful! This is a perfect replica of book-Oathkeeper and I'm super happy with it. When you look at it you can *see* the story coming to life. I haven't seen a sword of such quality for this price yet, I very much recommend it. This was my first purchase from ValyrianSteel, but I will surely keep an eye on the book replica section and likely buy again. Oathkeeper, being my favourite sword in the whole asoiaf series, will always have a special place of honor in my home
(and heart, because I'm a soppy). #166

Beautiful steel, hilt and pommel
When I opened it the blade was even more stunning than what I expected, the red damascus steel is absolutely gorgeous and the golden hilt and pommel is just perfectly crafted. Super happy with the sword, the shipping was also extremely fast even to Scandinavia. On the downside there were a few defects in the blade but overall it\\\\\\\'s gorgeous. Keep up the great work!

Red damascaus
Recieved my red damascaus no 59 sword and would have been so happy to have recieved it but for the scratches and the chip on the blade. The sword itself if it wasn't damaged would hav defenatly been 5 star plus but am so sad I carnt score that on this occasion This sword has been ordered for so long I am gutted, please note that I have ordered from valeryn steel before and hav never recieved any swords damaged before this is a one off, the attention to detail is stunning and the sword itself is well made just upset that it came with some damage to it

Ellie
This is an amazing sword! The pictures don't do it justice. The red blade is spectacular and the colour is great, you guys have done an amazing job! The only thing I would like to have seen was a bit more detail on the hilt. It seems a bit plain next to the blade
(Oathkeeper was commissioned by Tywin Lannister after all)
Well worth the wait! Can't wait for more book replicas!

Almost perfect...
I got #0050/2500 and it's absolutely beautiful. The Damascus patterns are awesome, and the red really makes the blade stand out. It immediately draws the eye when you walk into a room. My only complaint is that it came with a defect, as some of the red patina has been chipped/scratched off the tip of the blade. I have to hand it to VS though, they handled extremely well and I won't hesitate to order from them again!

P.S. If you're in the UK and were looking into buying this sword, the customs fee you're looking at will be around £76.
